The Brown Brothers (Gabe and Nate) recently went live on YouTube to share behind-the-scenes details about their experience on America’s Got Talent. The duo, who combined impressions and music, was recently eliminated in the Qualifiers.

During the live video, Gabe explained that their audition was pushed back several days from the original date. This is significant because judge Simon Cowell apparently wanted to give them the Golden Buzzer, but they had all been used up for the season.
“And then there was this whole, kind of, like, chaotic thing where producers walked down and started talking to them,” Gabe continued. “And Simon was saying, ‘It’s not fair. I’ve always said we should have more than one Golden Buzzer. We don’t know who’s coming on.'”
Ultimately, however, they moved on to the live shows without the Golden Buzzer. The brothers did have a bone to pick with Cowell regarding how he responded to their Qualifiers performance. In his critique, he gave credit to the show’s production team for how the act turned out.
“The implication of that, we think, is that the production crew built our act. In reality, we built our act, and we actually had a really hard time getting it approved,” Gabe explained, sharing that they made a demo of the looping concept to share with producers.

The Brothers Think They Were at a Disadvantage
Although the brothers said they had an “awesome” experience overall, they did talk about how they felt they were at a disadvantage. They were given a particularly rough week of live shows, considering they were up against two Golden Buzzers. This was troublesome since only two acts succeed past the Qualifier Round.
“Our week was stacked,” Gabe said. “They took all the most popular, by views, all the most popular acts, and they crammed them into our week. And so our competition off the bat was really hard.”
They also faced some obstacles regarding copyright and other technicalities before their performance. Not to mention, they were in the second spot of the night, which is not ideal. Although they didn’t go as far as saying the show is rigged, they do feel that the show gives preferential treatment to certain acts. They claim that the treatment went particularly toward the Golden Buzzers, which can affect results.
Still, the brothers spoke positively about the camaraderie they felt with their fellow acts. And there’s always the chance they’ll return in the Finals as a wildcard, so their AGT journey may not be over just yet.
